buurhuis in Bossuit

  • " A superfluous church in Bossuit, Belgium, originally built to replace a church destroyed in World War I, is made into an artificial ruin to create an outdoor public space for a village. The new terrazzo floor includes drawings both of the elements that were removed during demolition (pillars, ceiling arches, altars etc.) and of the shadow of the ruins of the church that previously occupied the site." ('Repeat' by Ellen Harvey)

BUYSE SEGHERS ARCHITECTEN was appointed to transform the Bossuit rectory to a village community center adding a reception room and facilities to the adjacent work by artist Ellen Harvey. The design involves multiple small interventions within the rectory, the rectory garden, and the churchyard.
