" A superfluous church in Bossuit, Belgium, originally built to replace a church destroyed in World War I, is made into an artificial ruin to create an outdoor public space for a village. The new terrazzo floor includes drawings both of the elements that were removed during demolition (pillars, ceiling arches, altars etc.) and of the shadow of the ruins of the church that previously occupied the site." ('Repeat' by Ellen Harvey)
BUYSE SEGHERS ARCHITECTEN has been appointed to transform the Bossuit rectory to a village community centre and reception room, adding needed facilities to the adjacent 'artificial ruin'. The commission involves multiple interventions including the design and execution of the rectory, the rectory garden and the churchyard integrating the work by artist Ellen Harvey.
